non art stardom
firstly: new essay, (barely) finished for spx!

it's, as you will read in the "artist's statement," a repainting of my first interview comic, from 2005, which i made for a painting class & never sold. so not really a new essay, & not jobnik 8, which i will go back to thumbnailing any day now, but mostly something to sell at one of the year's most buzzy cons.

i think it served that purpose ok. i'm still an absolute nobody at spx, but the daily cross hatch mentioned me briefly but kindly (with a photo of sultry me & surly mike). our actual bestseller was jewish memoir goes pow! zap! oy!, which was surprising & gratifying.

back to art star, besides the fact that i of course slacked off until the last minute & ended up pulling a painful all-nighter to get it off to my printers on time again, repainting it was fun & educational. i haven't done inkwash for five years or so, & never did a comic in inkwash before, so the ways in which the medium is similar & different from watercolour were very interesting & educational. i've been wanting to try inkwash again since seeing the jawdropping work of gipi. i'm thinking that my next big ambitious drawn essay will be partly in inkwash again. i'm excited for that, but of course that's not 'til after jobnik 8, so who knows when that will be (in addition to my chronic-ass procrastination, i have a day job now, which i'll say no more about cause i'm trying to keep it separate from my drawing life).

oh! speaking of working for a living, ten people have signed up for my graphic memoir class, so that'll be going ahead later this month! if you're in the area, i think there's still time & space to join! & if you don't have time now, but you will have time wednesday nights in january-february, they're talking about offering it again! so keep an eye out for the winter continuing studies calendar.

um, is that it? i've got a new t-shirt idea, which i have an evil scheme to abuse my new art-school-faculty privileges in order to bring about. hopefully i'll be posting images for your critique soon...
